Do you ever look at something in your house and think “Man, I should really spray paint that because I KNOW it would look better with a different color!” but you psych yourself out EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.? This would be me in the case of my amazing sunburst mirror. I found this baby at a Goodwill about 3 years ago and I immediately fell in love with her. Stars in my eyes and everything. The fact that people were walking right past this mirror without realizing how amazing she was just baffled me! I scooped her right up, ran up to the checkout counter and hurried home.
At our last house, she looked perfect just the way she was hanging above our bed against a navy wall. Swoon. Literally one of those purchases where every day I thought to myself “Nailed it.” When we moved to our current home, she was quickly hung up at the end of our hallway upstairs and honestly, is probably the ONLY thing in this house that is still where we put it the first time. But, ever since we re-did our stairway and added the panels in the hallway…I’ve heard that voice in my head saying “PAINT HER BLACK!” And finally, on a random Tuesday afternoon, I grabbed her off the wall, ran outside and set up shop before I could talk myself out of it. Taping the mirror part off was no joke. That alone made me start to have second thoughts.
After she was all taped and ready to go, I grabbed my most favorite Spray Paint of all time. I really don’t even want to know how many cans of this stuff we have purchased throughout the years. Just call me the ORB Queen. (ORB stands for Oil Rubbed Bronze, Mom….because I know when you read this, you’ll wonder about it forever. #TheMoreYouKnow)
I said a quick prayer, shook the can a million times and started the process of giving her a few light coats. Instantly, I knew I had made the right decision. Waiting for all the coats to go on and THEN for it to dry? Someone put me out of my misery. Let’s not even kid around when I tell you I brought her back inside when she wasn’t completely dry. Patience is a struggle for me.
Moment of truth when I hung her back up and stepped away. I covered my own eyes so it would be like a Christmas surprise. I didn’t cry tears of joy when I took my first look but BOY DID I WANT TO!!! This hallway has come a LONG way, baby, and this mirror update was the cherry on top. Want to see her now?!
Isn’t she the prettiest thing?!? Everyday since then, I’ve thought “Good decision, Jess!” and have given myself a thumbs up in the mirror. Not really. Maybe. Whatever. She’s real pretty.
Do you have anything laying around your house that you have the itch to change up!? Maybe the time is NOW!!!

Jess
